How to keep up with all the assignments for the week.
Week 5
How to keep up with all the assignments for the week.
I like to use a weekly master plan to plan the week’s assignments. Here’s how it works.
- Enter this week’s date.
- Fill in the name of each course you are enrolled in.
- Look at each class. Ask yourself: what do I have to turn in, for a grade, this week, for this class?
- Write assignments for a grade in the top box under the course title.
- Then ask yourself: What do I have to do this week for this class that is not for a grade? Things like reading, re-write class notes, visit the professor in their office, get the notes from a classmate for the class you missed, attend another lecture, go see a tutor, meet with study group, make flashcards, re-read the chapter, go to class, print the power point for the next class lecture.
- Write this list in the homework abbreviated HW box under each course title.
- This HW box is what differentiates high school from college. In high school, the only work a student does is for a grade. If the teacher is not going to grade it, then the high school student will not look at it, or even think about it. But in college, homework is what you need to do to learn the information. In college homework will usually not be graded. Homework is the stuff you do in order to make sure you understand the information and are ready for an exam.
- The last box in this Master Plan for the Week is the “errands” box. In this box you write down all the stuff you gotta do just to get through the week. Maybe you must fill up the gas tank, go to the ATM and get cash, pay a parking ticket, go get a parking permit, get a replacement for the ID card you just lost, go to the pharmacy and get your meds, fill out an application for RA at the dorm for next semester.
- You get the idea. It is just amazing how keeping up with this “errands” box clears up your mind and your time so you can stay on top of school assignments.
