Finals and Mental Stamina
Studying for finals requires stamina. Here are some steps to follow to increase your mental stamina.
- Make the decision that you will study. Don’t think about anything else but your topic for studying. If your mind starts to wander, study standing up. Study doing crunches. Study walking up and down stairs. Wear a rubber band around your wrist and every time your mind starts to wander pop yourself.
- Take breaks. Study for 45 – 50 minutes then take a 5 minute break.
- During your break get up and move. Exercise. Drink water. Eat fruit or nuts.
- Make sure you return to studying. Continue this study-break-study-break cycle for about 3 hours then take a longer break maybe one hour or an hour and a half. Go for a jog. Eat a meal. Take a shower.Take a short nap.
- Return to studying.
- The trick here is to increase your study time. That means the amount of time you are actively and mentally engaged with your material.
