Feeling sick? (Week 6 – Semester 1)
A lot of my students get sick at this point in the semester. It’s easy to slip into a get-sick-get-kinda-better -and-get-sicker cycle.
Week 6 sneaks up in your blind spot with exams and papers. Getting sick when the workload increases is rather common and sabotages your academic progress.
What to do? Sorry to break it to you but your mother was right. Eat healthy, exercise and get plenty of sleep. This is how to stay ahead in the stay healthy game.
Eating healthy could be a simple matter of keeping a list like this one:
Be Healthy | Mon | Tue | Wed | Thur | Fri | Sat | Sun |
Water | |||||||
Fruit | |||||||
Veggies | |||||||
Fiber | |||||||
Vitamins | |||||||
Whole grains | |||||||
Sleep 8 hrs | |||||||
Workout |
Exercise in college is a simple parking decision. Just park far away and walk more. Or take advantage of the gym on campus.
According to Health.com, good sleep helps you build strong memories, contributes to creativity, lowers stress and depression. Good sleep can also help you lose weight because you get hungry when you are sleep deprived. How you sleep affects the brain.
To increase your quality sleep, go to sleep at the same time every night. Turn all your electronic devices off about one hour before you go to bed. Avoid big meals late in the evenings. Avoid hidden caffeine drinks in the afternoon. Eat sleepy time foods like milk and graham crackers. Relax and breathe.
Stay healthy by remembering these three little words: eat, workout, sleep.
