Problem

Are you overwhelmed with school assignments? Do you feel like quitting? Do you feel stuck or caught in a rut? Are you studying a lot of hours but still earning a low grade? Do you blank out during an exam? You don’t know how to study? Are you stressed and anxious?

Description

Academic coaching offers executive function support as well as strategic study planning. It is a semester-long relationship between you and your coach.

The coaching relationship places concrete tools in your hands to manage time and develop specific study skills for your unique class assignments. Together, you and your coach will build a step-by-step plan to finish the semester based on your own strengths and your own brain. You will grow stress management skills. And find solutions to get around your learning obstacles.

How it works

We meet once a week for the entire semester.

You will walk out of the first meeting of the week with a calendar and plan for the week. We ask two questions: What is DUE? What do I need to do? We analyze the weekly learning tasks, predict time requirements, identify needed information or skills. Map out specific study skills. Locate help if needed. Clarify obstacles and distractions. And finally, articulate solutions to potential obstacles.

During the second meeting of the week, we ask this question: how did the plan work? What adjustments do you need to make to the plan? What study skills do we need to strengthen? If needed, we will study together.
